La Castanyada, Magosto o Magusto, es una fiesta tradicional de la Península Ibérica, de raíces celtas, que celebra el fin del verano y el comienzo del invierno.
En Cataluña, las celebraciones consisten en comer castanyes (castañas asadas), panellets (bolas especiales de almendra cubiertas de piñones) y beber moscatel.
La tradición cristiana de comer estos alimentos durante la noche de Todos los Santos hasta la víspera del día de los difuntos y de madrugada tocar las campanas en conmemoración de los difuntos.
La fiesta se suele representar con la figura de una castañera: una anciana, vestida con ropa de campesina y con un pañuelo en la cabeza, sentada detrás de una mesa, asando castañas para su venta ambulante.
En los últimos años, la Castañada se ha convertido en una celebración popular en el hogar y en la comunidad.
